ITS a hair thing - October 2019
Welcome to the October issue of ITS a hair thing!
Hello Autumn! a fabulous time of year for hairdressing... We are thrilled to have recently welcomed several new apprentices to programme and feel proud to know they will receive the very best training within our network of high calibre partner salons. YOU are the inspiration for our future hairdressing professionals.
Preparing you for changes in the way apprenticeships are funded
The Government are in the process of introducing a system called the Digital Apprenticeship System or DAS for short. Large employers with an annual salary bill in excess of £3million pounds annually (known as Levy Payers) are already using this system. Over the next few months all remaining employers e.g. Non-Levy payers will have to start using the DAS.
You will need to register for a DAS account in order to access funding and recruit apprentices. We will be providing you with updates on this over the coming months. However, please note this is compulsory and will become the only way you can access apprenticeship funding. The DAS replaces the current system which has seen the Government allocating funding contracts to training providers.
To help prepare, please consider the following:
- This will become compulsory (maybe as early as next April).
- It's possible a 'soft' option which sees the existing system and new system run in tandem will operate from November 2019.
- Invitation to register will be via email and this should not be ignored.
- Decide who in your organisation will have authority to sign and should therefore be receiving the email above.
- The person with authority to sign will be signing on a gov.uk website which includes a contract with the ESFA and allocating apprenticeship funding.
- You must know the total annual company payroll or whether it's under or over £3m.
- You will need either a Government Gateway login for your PAYE scheme or accounts office reference number and employer PAYE scheme reference. If you don't know these contact your accountant or payroll office.
