ITS a hair thing - June 2021

Welcome to the June issue of ITS a hair thing!

End Point Assessment success!

End Point Assessments finally resumed in May after the extended period of lockdown! The team have been busy carrying out holistic assessments and completing gateway meetings to support apprentices with scheduling their EPAs for June and July.

Team ITS extends huge congratulations to the following apprentices who passed their End Point Assessments in May:

Sophie, Salon Sixteen - Distinction
Jessica, Salon Sixteen - Distinction
Chloe, Aveda - Distinction
Simona, Aveda – Pass

Liz Taylor

Team ITS extends a very warm welcome to Liz Taylor, who has temporarily returned to ITS as Lead IQA. Liz will be a familiar face to many of our partner salons and ISAs. Liz will shortly be contacting ISAs to plan annual IQA observations and collate CPD records for the 2020/21 CPD year.

New Partner Salon Agreement Forms – *Action Required*

You should have (or will shortly receive) our new updated Partner Salon Agreement form via post. The agreement sets out the responsibilities of ITS and the partner salon (the employer) in respect of apprentices and all other learners on government-funded and privately-funded programmes.

Once you have read and understood the agreement, please sign and detach the last page and give to your ITS representative, return in the enclosed pre-paid envelope or take a picture/scan and email to ten/dtl-sti//ahtnamas.

It is now a requirement of the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) for ITS to collect a signed agreement from you on an annual basis, so please make sure you return to us ASAP. As always, if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the office on 023 9259 1666.

What are the advantages to having an In-Salon Assessor? (ISA)

If you have an ISA, you will know that they are a huge asset to your salon and apprentices. Having an ISA gives the apprentice and partner salon more flexibility with getting models in for assessment and the apprentice will not be off the salon floor for so long every month. If you do not have an ISA, the ITS Trainer/Assessor (T/A) will need to assess the apprentice and therefore the apprentice will be off the salon floor for approximately 3 hours during the T/A's visit. In addition, the apprentice will have to find models to be assessed on the date and time of the T/A's monthly visit. Apprentice progress is propelled when working on a model which may be suitable for assessment during training when they have their ISA on hand to assess.

In addition, should you be required to make a co-investment in line with funding rules (i.e. for apprentices over 19 at sign up), you will pay less than if you did not have an ISA.

Please see the tables below which sets out the differences for the Level 2 Hair Professional and the Level 3 Advanced and Creative Hair Professional:

Level 2 Functional Skill upskill waiver

The ESFA have confirmed an extension to the level 2 Functional Skills upskill waiver. This has been extended until 31 July 2021. This means apprentices can now pass to gateway up until 31 July 2021 without attempting level 2 Functional Skills assessments.

As always, we will continue to support apprentices in developing their maths and English skills and facilitate Functional Skills assessments where apprentices elect to take them.

We love to celebrate the achievements of learners and partner salons. Please let us know if you have something to share!
