Safeguarding and sexual harassment and violence and online sexual abuse
Ofsted has revised its further education and skills inspection handbook with effect from 1 September 2021. The safeguarding section is updated to take into account the findings and recommendations of Ofsted's review of sexual abuse in schools and colleges in the context of further education and skills provision. This includes, in particular, a new section entitled: 'Sexual harassment and violence and online sexual abuse between learners who are children or young people'. This explains what inspectors will evaluate in the light of the findings and recommendations of the review report. It includes the expectation that they will meet with groups of learners, in particular single-sex groups, as part of the inspection of safeguarding and confirms that they will ask for and look at cases of sexual abuse/ harassment incidents.
In light of the recent media coverage and disclosures of Sexual Harassment/Abuse, it is clear that we ALL need to be more aware of the language used. We need to be making sure young people have a thorough understanding of what consent is and also having conversations about what is acceptable and what is NOT OK to say or do. It is important to remember that these kind of behaviours happen to both males and females.
How to report a concern
If you are an apprentice, or you have concerns about an apprentice you know who has been harmed or is at risk of being harmed in any way, we will be able to offer you help and support. You can speak to any ITS team member who will refer to the ITS' Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) who is responsible for Safeguarding - Lauren Pullen ten/dtl-sti//nerual.

Lights, camera FDL action
Congratulations! to Frank Di Lusso, Dulcie and team who promoted the importance of apprenticeships when interviewed by the BBC last week.
"We were delighted to be asked to speak to the BBC, on behalf of our industry by the NHBF and just how tough it's been post lockdown, but also how lucky we are to have our apprenticeships.
We were able to explain the real importance of having them on our team not just to make us stylists lives a bit easier but to fulfil the experience of coming into the salon especially after the year everyone has had!"

Health & Safety Executive (HSE)
The HSE is carrying out spot checks and inspections on businesses in all areas to check they have COVID-secure measures in place, to keep workers, visitors and customers safe. During the spot checks and inspections, HSE will provide guidance if required but, where businesses are not managing the risk, they will take action.
The following COVID-secure measures remain unchanged:
- social distancing
